How to celebrate #WorldWaterfowlDay

Go birding!

World Waterfowl Day is all about appreciating waterfowl, wetlands, and nature. Get outdoors and visit your nearest wildlife refuge, park, or nature center to look for and learn about waterfowl and other birds.

Attend an event

Conservation and education organizations worldwide are invited to host their own waterfowl-focused events on or around January 17th.

Learn & share

Learn something new about waterfowl, then share your favorite waterfowl facts and photos on social media using the hashtag #WorldWaterfowlDay.

Why celebrate waterfowl?

The waterfowl group is comprised of more than 170 species of ducks, geese, and swans in the order Anseriformes. Twelve species are currently considered endangered or critically endangered in the wild. Awareness initiatives, like a national or international day of celebration, can emphasize the importance of waterfowl in the natural world and engage the public in learning about this fascinating group of birds.

World Waterfowl Day Goals:

Increase public awareness, knowledge and interest in all species within the order Anseriformes (waterfowl)

Encourage participants to spend time outdoors appreciating wildlife and nature.

Create a platform for participating organizations to share their commitment to waterfowl and conservation.

Host an Event

Conservation organizations, wildlife refuges, nature centers, educators, and others are invited to celebrate World Waterfowl Day by hosting an event.
